MYCO Medical Donates Supplies to Haiti Earthquake Relief

» Email this Article       » Printer Friendly Version

Cary, NC - After hearing alarming reports out of Haiti indicating that emergency medical teams are in desperate need of surgical supplies, MYCO Medical is donating close to $100,000 in medical and surgical equipment to hospitals and clinics in Haiti. The most critically needed items are sutures, so physicians can close wounds, perform surgeries and care for the most vulnerable patients.

"Haiti is in critical need of sutures because surgeons are unable to operate and treat earthquake related injuries as well as meet daily medical needs without the necessary supplies," says Sam Kumar, president and CEO of MYCO Medical.

Some of the recent reports illustrate the desperate medical needs:
" Partners in Health predict 20,000 people are dying each day that could be saved by surgery.
" Doctor's Without Borders reports needing to use a common saw to handle amputations.
" This week USA Today reported that seasoned doctors have described the medical situation in Haiti as "unlike anything they have ever experienced before".

The donated items are disposable, sterile and include sutures, scalpels, blades, blood collection and infusion kits, specialty procedure needles and syringes. The supplies will be given to
"The Haiti Connection," a Raleigh, NC based non-profit already working on cultural, educational and medical projects in Haiti before the earthquake hit. The group can distribute the supplies quickly and to where they are most needed because their supply network is already in place.

Kumar adds, "There are surgeons in Haiti who are waiting for our sutures to arrive, so The Haiti Connection is working on getting these supplies on board one of the next planes down. Our entire team is so excited about contributing to the relief efforts, and hope the people of Haiti know that we are behind them in their road to recovery."

On My Honor, I Will

Aug. 29, 2010 - (By: Gary Tomlinson) "Learning from the school of hard knocks can be very informing, but often the tuition is too high! We should learn from other people's experiences." The purpose of this column is to share great business wisdom from the experiences of authors like Jim Collins, Michael Gerber, Gary Harpst, Michael LeBoeuf, Ron Willingham, Randy Pennington and others. Because when you combine great business education with your own business experiences the outcome you'll receive is far greater than the sum of its parts.

The wisdom of Randy Pennington's new book; "On My Honor, I Will; The Journey to Integrity-Driven Leadership" has been chosen to share with you this week. The seed for this book began with five words: "He's a REAL BOY SCOUT." Those words were spoken to Randy Pennington by his client who used them to describe his boss. They were not meant as a compliment. His client's contention that honor and integrity are not consistent with long-term success concerned Randy then and continues to do so today. It was the catalyst that caused him to write this book.

Unfortunately his client's belief is shared by many others today.   More »
