The Knightdale High School Athletic Booster Club held its second annual Planter's Walk Charity Golf Tournament at River Ridge Golf Club on April 20, 2012 to raise funds for college scholarships for student athletes. The event was entirely organized and staffed by volunteers from the Planter's Walk subdivision in Knightdale, home to more than 700 families.
Smithfield's Chicken'N Bar-B-Q was above par providing food for the nearly 100 golfers at the banquet that followed.
Jenny Cope, fundraising director for the Planter's Walk Golf Tournament states, "The event was a huge success, due in no small part to the generosity of Smithfield's! We raised nearly $6,900 for college scholarships for student athletes at Knightdale High School (that figure more than doubles the amount raised at last year's event). The food was wonderful and all of our golfers were so excited to see your food on our buffet again."
Marketing Director for Smithfield's Chicken N Bar-B-Q, Richard Averitte, explains, "It's great to be a part of this event to raise scholarship funds for deserving student athletes who otherwise may not be able to pursue their sport on the collegiate level."
