Sales is a Contact Sport - So Who Are You Making Contact With?

The first half of the year is just about over! Yikes, where did all the days go and how did they slip by so fast? Time moves quickly when we are busy. It is interesting that while our country is still in an economic slow down it sure feels like everyone I talk with is working mighty hard.

In the past two weeks I've spent six days involved in attending “live” events for social media networking communities. All this was highlighted with inSide919.com's Final Friday in Cary where wonderful networking opportunity and an excellent expert panel that expolored creating Visibility for you and your business.

I feel strongly that it is important to attend “live’ social networking and learning events that exist for members of the different on-line social media communities. One of the most powerful movements in the country presently is the proliferation of all the different social media platforms. There is an on-line community for everyone and every interest if you just look around. But being on-line is not enough if you are building relationships for yourself and your business. You can’t stay behind that computer monitor and expect to achieve the deep long lasting relationships that are needed for your business or for your life. We can’t expect people to just come cruising down our street and knock on our door asking if we will be their friend.

Even with the amazing progression of technology and communication we have achieved in the past two decades it will never replace face-to-face networking. While the blogs and message boards do enhance our relationships and help us learn more about each other they will never be able to replace a smile and a handshake. We still like to do business with people we like, know and trust. And remember, business is a contact sport!

As that great philosopher Plato said: “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

I will change that to a 21st century and saying: “You can discover more about a person in one hour of live networking than you can in a year of on-line conversation.”
