2nd ANNUAL APEX JAZZ FESTIVAL BRINGS JAZZ, BLUES, AND BEER TO DOWNTOWN APEX, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH

THE FESTIVAL’S SECOND YEAR EXPANDS ITS MUSIC VARIETY, AND ADDS THE TOWN’S VERY FIRST BEER GARDEN

APEX, NORTH CAROLINA, AUGUST 20, 2012 – Building on the success of a string of summer festivals in Downtown Apex, including Peak Fest and this year’s inaugural Peak City Pig Fest, the Apex Downtown Business Association (ADBA) will present its 2ND ANNUAL APEX JAZZ FESTIVAL.

Last year’s festival, a pub-crawl experience along Salem Street, was well received with thousands of people attending the day-long event, enjoying music from some of the Triangle’s top jazz artists in 11 venues. The second annual event will model this success with a pub-crawl experience, but will add more performances, and a wider variety of music. A major addition to the festival this year is the Jazz Beer Garden that will operate in conjunction with the outdoor stage in the parking area of the Apex Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re incredibly excited about the beer garden and outdoor stage, and expect it to be a major focal point of the Jazz Festival this year,” said Blaine East, chair of the APEX JAZZ FESTIVAL committee, member of the ADBA, and owner of Landcore Group. “Downtown Apex has never had a beer garden at a festival before, so we’re making sure we set the bar high. Pair that with the great lineup of bands we have playing on the outdoor stage and it’s sure to be a great experience for everyone involved.”

While last year’s festival featured only Jazz, for the 2nd annual event the organizers have included a broader variety of music that will feature a number of Blues acts. This year’s Halle Cultural Arts Center headliner, Seth Walker from Austin, Texas, is just one of them. Other notable Blues performers on the bill are the Piedmont Blues greats Ironing Board Sam, and Big Ron Hunter. Mark Holland, formerly with 90s-era Chapel Hill band Jennyanykind, will also deliver his gritty style of acoustic Blues. For those coming to the festival for great Jazz, sure to be a favorite this year is former Squirrel Nut Zippers lead, Katharine Whalen with her newly-formed Katharine Whalen Trio.

Tickets for the 2ND ANNUAL APEX JAZZ FESTIVAL are available now at www.apexjazzfestival.com. Tickets for the outdoor stage and all of the pub venues are ONLY $10. All-inclusive tickets for the outdoor stage, all pub venues, and admission to the headliner performance at the Halle Cultural Arts center are just $20. Admission into the Beer Garden is limited to those 21 years of age and older.

The festival committee is still taking volunteers for a number of posts. Those interested in volunteering at the 2ND ANNUAL APEX JAZZ FESTIVAL, please contact the volunteer coordinator, Stephanie Carola, at stephanie.carola1@yahoo.com.
