RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 12, 2018 –Monica Smiley, publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women magazine, has appointed Betsy Bassan, Shaila Mistry and Shina Parker to serve on the publication’s advisory board. The board is comprised of a select group of women and men who support the publication and give back to the women business owners’ community by providing leadership, motivation and inspiration to thousands of women entrepreneurs across North America and around the world.
Elizabeth “Betsy” Ann Bassan is founder, President and CEO of Panagora Group, a woman-owned small business that provides integrated and novel solutions in international health and development. The main goal of this company is to develop innovative solutions that are tailored to developing country needs that maximize sustainability. She has held executive and leadership positions with a variety of organizations, such as, Chemonics International, Save the Children, and SID-Washington. In addition to these positions, she played a key role in founding the Coalition of International Development Companies (CIDC) and served on its executive committee while also serving on the board and executive committee of the USGLC. She is a senior planner and management specialist with more than 30 years of experience in design, implementation and evaluating international development projects that strengthens institutions and builds public-private partnerships. Bassan holds an M.A. from Columbia University, where she participated in a joint degree program on Planning in Developing Nations within the School of International Affairs and the Division of Urban Planning, as well as, a B.A. cum laude from St. John’s College and served on its board.
Shaila Rao Mistry is president of Jayco MMI and STEM-Institute. Jayco MMI innovates, designs and manufactures human machine interfaces for aerospace, medical devices, security, communications, and industrial applications that range from mobile devices to rack-mount systems. STEM-Institute leverages experience from private sector, academia, government, and civil society to advise organizational leaders to influence change and create growth opportunities through insightful analysis and innovative strategic planning.
She serves on several boards, locally and nationally including the NAWBO National board. She is active on the International Task force, Public Policy Task Force and Tax regulations and Reform Council. She also serves on the Small Business Advisory Council for California Department of General Services. She is proud to serve on The University of California Small and Diverse Business Advisory Council UC SDBAC, which oversees all nine UC campuses’ budget. She is a global advocate for women’s empowerment, while being active across five continents, having presented at the UN level at seminars on business, diversity and equality, women’s issues, reform and economic advancement. She is a passionate advocate for prominent issues that impact women business owners and healthcare reform.
Shaila has received several Lifetime Achievement awards and recognitions for her humanitarian work and entrepreneurial accomplishments. She was listed among the Top 20 Women to Watch by OC Metro; SABAN awarded her Entrepreneur of the Year; ABAOC awarded her its Marco Polo Award for Entrepreneurship & Global Humanitarian work. NAWBO recognized her with Lifetime Entrepreneur award. Born in India, educated in London, and settled in California, Shaila is a true global citizen.
Shina Parker has over 30 years of experience in strategic business development, including 28 years in the real estate title business representing buyers, sellers, lenders, brokers, investors, credit unions, nonprofit organizations, realtors, builders and developers. With a team of knowledgeable attorneys and a seasoned staff, her firm specializes in commercial and residential settlements, refinancing (commercial & residential), short sale and foreclosure transactions, investors and hard money closings, acquisitions and air right closings, and bond-financed real estate transactions.
